At the beginning of the year Amazon introduced in the US a new feature called “AutoRip” which does pretty much what it says on the tin in that it automatically creates an MP3 version of any CDs or vinyl that you bought though Amazon. These tracks are then available for you to play through either Amazon’s cloud player or to download and pretty much do what you like with including downloading an sticking on your iPod.
It’s a really neat service and works as advertised but you do end up with some odd tracks in your cloud player. For example all those CDs that you bought as gifts for others. Witness the image below which includes Take That, the sound track to Grease and Jack Jones, all of which were for others (honest).
A nice touch is that the AutoRip’d tracks don’t count against your cloud player storage allowance but then for me 5gb was never going to be enough so for now I am sticking with Subsonic.
