I didn’t think that I would be downloading quite so much this month given that I was on holiday for half the month but I still seem to have managed a reasonable amount!
This months additions are:
- Prides – Covers
- Prides – The Seeds You Sow EP
- Alex Turner – Submarine
- John Wetton – Raised in Captivity
- 9Bach- Tincian (SoS)
- LSO – Britten The Turn of the Screw (SoS)
For reasons that are not clear to me Prides changed their name from Midnight Lion having released the excellent Sleeping the Woods. No doubt the change was because people might have been confused with an operating system of a similar name, or possibly something else. Anyway, this is a good EP though not as hauntingly as good as Sleeping the Woods.
I watched Submarine on the plane back from holiday and thought that the music suited it perfectly but hadn’t registered it as Alex Turner. If you get an opportunity to see the film do. It’s quirky and touching and will remind everyone of what it is like to be a teenager.
After getting the latest Asia album last month I thought that I would try out something from the lead John Wetton. It seems that Asia really are greater than the sum of their parts judging by this one.
That’s it for this month.
Those above marked (SoS) are from a subscription service called Society of Sound which is curated by Real World Records, Peter Gabriel and the LSO. This provides members with two downloads a month of which you get no choice. This means that some months you get something that you really love and other months not so.
