We eschewed the delights of a Premier Inn breakfast and instead chose to hit the road early and make our way from Kent to Surrey and the RHS gardens at Wisley. We are recent members of the RHS having been wowed by a previous visit to the Chelsea Flower Show. If any of this is making us sound old that’s probably because we are, well Helen is at any rate!
Never having been before I hadn’t appreciated just how big it was – and that was just the car park, of which there were five! The gardens themselves were pretty big too and kept us occupied for over three hours with plenty left for future visits.
Wisley is divided up into different areas with each having a theme, such as cottage garden, ferns, rose garden, bonsai etc. It could be odd walking form one to another as they don’t naturally fit together. Some areas were better than others but it did get us thinking about our own garden. Right now it’s not looking great due to the very brown grass brought on by the heat wave but we would like to remodel it. It would be easy to get carried away with thinking that we could reproduce some of the stunning scenes at Wisley but, of course, they have both man power and the knowledge. We will have to think carefully about what we want to do or, more likely, get someone in to do it for us!
One thing is for certain… these won’t be a feature of our new garden.
