And back again.
The cruise boat left Vienna and travelled overnight back to our embarcation port of Budapest where we left just a week ago. We hadn’t had much of an opportunity to do any sightseeing when we arrived so we planned to rectify that today.
We have been to Budapest a couple of times before, the last for the Christmas markets in 2014, and so we know our way around pretty well. We decided to go up to Buda Castle this afternoon and the markets tomorrow. When leaving the boat we spied a couple of Lime scooters which we last rode on a trip to Washington so we thought we’d give them another go. Turns out the next-gen Lime scooters are a whole lot different from the previous ones and we had really trouble getting them going and keeping them moving. I found it all a bit stressful along with the very busy cycle paths.
Anyway we arrived in one piece and then took the funicular up to the castle area. It was a building site. It turns out that since we were last here they have taken the decision to pull down old, damaged, buildings and rebuild them as complete facsimiles which I guess makes sense if they weren’t otherwise usable or accessible. It is an attractive area up in Buda and especially the Fisherman’s Bastion which was crawling with people everywhere you looked.
We walked back along the front of the buildings and took the steps down to ground level and started back towards the boat. Half way along we decided to give the Limes a go once again and this time took the gen one machines which were much more compliant making it a more stress free expereince.
And that’s another break done. The next time away will be after I have retired and so a whole new experience awaits!
