When you return to the same place a number of times it becomes increasingly difficult to find new sites to visit. While we did revisit some old favourites, such as the amazing Alcazar and the Spain Square, it is always good to try something new.
We sort of stumbled upon the Pilate’s House which is hardly surprising as it seems to have no signage outside at all. I’d found it online where it had been described as a small Alkazar without the crowds, the latter due to there being no signage perhaps. It was worth a visit though because despite being small the tessilations on the walls were very fine. I could really imagine me living in one of these houses and sitting in the beautiful courtyard gardens on a summer’s evening. Of course you would have had to have been very rich in order to afford such a fine place and I could live with that too!
A Cheap Date
Another reason to love Seville and Spain in general is tapas those small dishes of cooked meats, fishes, cheeses and fried potatoes. A surprisingly small amount of tapas turns out to be pretty filling and cheap too. Four to six plates at €4 a plate and we’re done. You’ve only spent under 30 quid on a meal for two, had a great deal of variety and are full up too.
Of course Seville is packed full of small bars and restaurants selling both tapas and main dishes such as the obligatory paella. There is an obvious street in Seville with tourist restaurants complete with men with menus trying to entice punters in.
For the first couple of days the town was pretty quiet except in the tourist areas but on Friday night, boy what a transformation! All the bars were packed with people eating, drinking and, in some cases, singing Spanish tunes. These could only have been locals celebrating the end of another working week. By contrast the tourist street was pretty quiet. It was quite a shock to see so many people!
Time to Return Home
Another visit over and it was time to return to the UK where the temperatures while not as cold as they had been earlier in the week were still cold compared to Seville so we had to steel ourselves for that.
EasyJet turnaround time is nuts. We were queuing on the jet bridge to get on as the people from the previous flight were still coming off! At least the seat was still warm from the bum that occupied it on the way in!
See you next time Seville.
