Mainly this break is about our grandchildren so most of the activities revolve around them but actually, the first thing was did was adult oriented – Segways.
I have been on the self-righting machine a couple of times before and each time has been great fun. After the obligatory training session and health and safety briefings we were taken out onto the paths and roads where we followed our guide around, we weren’t allowed to go off on our own, dutifully keeping three meters apart. Initially, the weather was ok, then it was fine rain and, finally, persistent rain which left us wet and with cold hands. Nevertheless, we did all enjoy the experience.
If I had the money and they were legal to use on the pavements in the UK, I would be seriously tempted to buy a Segway over an escooter, which also aren’t legal but seem prevalent. The thing is Segway UK doesn’t sell the self-balancing product here but does sell escooters!
After lunch was the first family event – squash. Well, it took place on a squash court, used racquets and balls and the four-year-old in our party played at a frenetic pace but it was actually much cooler than that. This was a series of games that you could choose from that were then projected onto the back wall. The object was to hit what you were seeing on the wall to remove them and score points. This was done in a number of different formats and was surprisingly entertaining.
The day ended with an attempt at a much needed bath but when we turned on the taps but when we did we found that we had hot and cold running ants as well as water so bathtime was abandoned!
