We have been coming to Center Parcs for so long that we predate the introduction of wifi internet access here. I remember being here in an apartment more than 15 years ago where it was the only accommodation that had wifi access and being excited by the prospect.
Of course, things have come on a pace since then with the introduction of fiber broadband and lightning fast speeds of up to 500mbps at home so things must have also improved here too surely? Surely?
No, of course, they haven’t. The image above is a speed test I ran last night and it was laughably slow. The ping time was awful. For those that don’t know ping is (roughly) the time it takes for your computer to talk to a remote site and get a response. 2,404 milliseconds (2.4 seconds) is a lifetime. Gamers would expect it to be about 30ms so no gaming here. The upload and download speeds are glacial and akin to dialup.
I know that there are a lot of people here, and it is noticable in the evenings when more people come online. I also know that we are some miles away from the nearest town and this is a place with a large number of properties spead over a large area but even so.
Of course, the speeds are good enough for me to post this – just very, very slowly.
