As I’ve said before I love London. It’s packed with interesting places, people, art and architecture and a great place to visit for a day but couldn’t live there.
I’m happy to explore the usual haunts that the city is famous for but equally like to find places a little more unusual hence today’s visit to 23 & 24 Leinster Gardens.
If you walk past without paying too much attention these houses look much like those around them (Wikipedia tells me that these are mid-Victorian terraced houses). However, on closer inspection one can see that the windows are all painted grey which doesn’t give the occupants a great view. That the owners are one London Transport is also intriguing.
I wander around the back on to the parallel street where the answer is revealed. 23 & 24 don’t exist at all and are just a facade. Below is the reason they are needed – the Metropolitan underground line runs right underneath, it must be noisy for the neighbours.
It’s fascinating and well worth a short diversion from Paddington station (itself worth a visit) just seven minutes away.
