Thames Path – Day Twelve –Reading to Pangbourne

The beautiful weather has allowed us to complete, so far this year, 100% more legs of the path than last year. All that really highlights is just how few legs we did last year. I am glad that we are back in to the swing of it though and today’s was a really enjoyable section.

Walking away from home

To date all the legs we have undertaken have been walking towards Reading but having reached our home town on day eleven we are now walking away. This was quite a busy stretch with plenty of walkers and runners out for their daily constitutional and some friendly locals too.

Early on the walk, we met a guy who was clearly keen to engage us in conversation. This quickly turned to the boat that was half-submerged next to us. He told us that he knew the owner who had returned one afternoon to find three men on the boat; a knife was drawn, police were involved, and in the evening, one of the three returned and drilled a hole in the hull of the said boat. Needless to say, it is now with the courts.

Fortunately (almost) all of the rest of the boats we saw on the walk were above water, and some seemed to be permanently moored in very attractive spots. Whether they are quite so idyllic in November in the snow is another matter, of course.

Pangbourne is an attractive little place, but this being a Sunday, nothing was open, and so we got the train back to Reading and started thinking about when we could do the next leg— Pangbourne to Cholsey. Watch this space…!
